Analysis 2: Rhetorical Analysis

Consider what you’ve done up to this point: you completed the research process assignment and have written a summary. Now let’s move on, making an opportunity for you to practice Composition II’s first, 3rd, and 4th abilities.  This is a significant beast.

Rhetorical analysis is typically defined as a study of another author’s strategy, in this case, the methods and evidence an author employs to make their case given our discussion of the persuasive framework. This assignment provides just one opportunity to express your study of this kind of writing.

This assignment is a rhetorical analysis of a persuasive article you’ve found in a relevant information database (you should also be able to explain how this article lives up to standards for credible information sources). Think about what is meant by “persuasive,” which indicates that a position is being defended. This article should be relevant to your topic.

Answer this question in the analysis in the form of a thesis: how does the author or how do the authors make an effective or reasonable case in support of a position? In this analysis, avoid writing about the subject and concentrate on applying standards of evaluation to the author or authors’ article. Of course, you’ll first need to briefly and purposefully summarize the work and then move into your analysis. Part of the goal here is to determine whether this work will be suitable for your first research paper, so there’s a lot to think about. This rhetorical analysis should provide you with your second source for Research Paper 1 and so some amount of research should already have taken place in your own study of the topic. You should review the Standards of Evaluation and the analysis study notes for contextual assistance.

Don’t neglect to examine the method, structure, and application of the persuasive framework.
