On Wednesday, April 18th, local spiritual leader and Tunxis adjunct faculty member Rabbi Howard Herman spoke in our Proof & Possibility lecture series. His talk was be on ways that thinkers address the relationship between the human and the divine – and the relation between philosophy (the love of wisdom) and theology (the study of God). In his talk, he explored how in religious and spiritual circles, it has often been suggested that human beings are from two different worlds – living half in heaven and half in earth. However, he notes, it has also been speculated that mortals are not quite at home in either place. If one attempts to reconcile heaven and earth, at what point does mystical union with the divine and personal integration of the different parts of oneself become one and the same.

The International Dinner is the final event of International Week, a week of special events designed to celebrate the diversity of the international students at Tunxis. The dinner is a pot luck supper where students and faculty bring food to share. There is a “tea cup” judging of dishes and prizes are awarded for the favorites of the night. Bob Chase, one of our Spanish teachers, volunteers to be the MC for the evening. The music for this year’s dinner was provided by Goza Latin Jazz Band.
