Why we do this is simple – our friends and classmates may be going hungry, and we’re not OK with that. This pantry makes food available to those who are suffering from food insecurity.
The pantry is located in Founders Hall
- Mondays – 4:00 to 6:00 pm
- Thursdays – 10:30 am to 12:30 pm
Donation boxes are located in the 100 building, in the library lobby and in the Student Lounge. Cash donations are also accepted through the cashier’s office.
How Does The Pantry Work?
Students are allowed to self-refer, or may be referred by campus departments. Students in need are welcome to visit The Pantry twice per month and receive a total of 20 items per month. Students are encouraged to bring their own grocery bag or to reuse the bag they are given upon their first visit to the pantry. Students must present their Student ID or other proof that they are a current, registered Tunxis student in order to receive food.
National research shows that 1 in 5 college students experience some form of food insecurity. The need for a pantry on our own campus is just as great. In 2013/14, 64.5% of Tunxis students (a total of 2,960 individuals) suffered from the risk of food insecurity.
