The CEI recently came across a book entitled War and the Soul, an account of the trauma soldiers returning from war face. Tick argues powerfully that American society does not prepare these individuals for life after the traumatic event because it does not allow a period of purification and cleansing. Soldiers who fight in war, as well as others who have been impacted by a traumatic event, feel as though their soul has left them. Tick’s book provides from long-term strategies for spiritual renewal that’s necessary to allow the soul to return.
