September 19, 2018 Rafaele Fierro

The Civic Engagement Institute sponsored Tunxis Community College’s 14th annual Constitution Day panel discussion on September 17th, 2018, this one on the history, meaning, and interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. The panelists were Professor Bob Brown who discussed the 2nd Amendment in the context of the Civil War all the way up to the 1960’s Black Panther Party; Dr. Fran Coan who dissected the language of the 2nd Amendment and some of the history behind it; and Dr. Rafaele Fierro who looked at the long history of the 2nd Amendment, culminating in the modern-day culture wars. Audience questions and comments contributed to the provocative but informative and civil discussion.
