We would like to award monetary prizes to three Tunxis students who have shown exemplary leadership in a civic engagement activity that has contributed to the well-being of their community. The prizes will go to the students who:
- Have shown great commitment, success, and leadership in helping to improve their community;
- Explain clearly, thoughtfully, and powerfully in an essay of 500 to 1,000 words the nature of their civic achievement and how it has benefitted people.
Civic engagement examples include creating a project that brings attention to a community need, working with a legislator on a community activity, or improving the lives of the homeless, children, or some other disaffected group. Here are two videos of what civic engagement is:
First Place = $300
Second Place = $150
Third Place = $75
The deadline for submissions is April 20th, 2018. Please submit your essay describing your civic engagement accomplishment to firstname.lastname@example.org. The Civic Engagement Institute has an advisory board that will determine the recipients and announce the names of the winners by the end of spring semester 2018.
