lWeek

International Week was the celebration of the International Cultures that are part of the Tunxis community. On Monday we featured a Mariachi Band.   Tuesday’s event was a  recognition of various cultures focused on a panel discussion of students’ experiences of culture shock when adjusting to the U.S.  On Wednesday and Thursday, students could participate in a Scavenger Hunt where participants had to hunt for clues of an “international” nature.   The week was capped off with a celebration of food and dance at the International Pot Luck Supper on Thursday. In the afternoon there was a cooking demonstration by Chef Warren Baird and  Flamenco dance and music.   In the evening, students and faculty brought in various international dishes which were judged and then featured as the fare for the evening.  Diners were entertained by one of our own students Mike Platosz who played the accordion  and sang as well as a performance by a  Ukrainian Dance group.

Dave-Drawing Marathon

Tunxis’ 1st annual 24-hour Drawing Marathon took place from 9am Friday, Feb. 27 to 9am Saturday, Feb. 28 in one of the campus’ beautiful new drawing studios. Over 20 students, faculty and staff participated in this 24-hour long artistic challenge, and much to everyone’s surprise, all participants finished! The Tunxis Art Club helped to organize this intense studio event and raised enough funds to provide all participating artists with 5 meals, some live entertainment, interesting subjects and plenty of supplies to fuel their creative impulses for the entire day-long period. This documentary, filmed and edited by Mike Zych, captures the inventive, playful and collaborative spirit of the event.
The 2nd Annual Event is titled “Marathon of the Arts” and will be held in the Tunxis Art Studios from 9:00 am April 9 to 9:00 am April 10, 2010. This year’s event will expand to include not only Drawing, but Painting, Sculpture, Photography and Creative Writing, and will be open to 80 Tunxis students! Since we are hoping to fuel all participants with food, supplies and inspiring subject matter, we are looking for donations from the campus community. Any donations of $20 or more will be thanked with an original work of art created at the marathon.
